As we prepare to close the door on one decade and start another, Made in the Midlands member All British Precision Ltd has committed to growth in the new decade by investing in 3 new CNC Machines.

The new machines, which consist of two DMG Mori NLX2500/700-SY with gantry loaders and one DMC 65 FD Monoblock with RS3 Pallet loader, bring together a total investment of just under £1 Million.

Speaking to Made in the Midlands about the investment, Managing Director Richard Allen talked about the potential this investment holds for the company. “The Gantry loaders are essential to automate and create lights out capacity for a lot of our regular work, and in turn, this will then build spare capacity that we will be able to sell. This is already showing great progress and has freed up a significant amount of capacity, which we are now able to offer into the market place.

Likewise, the DMC 65 FD has increased much-needed capacity on the 5-axis milling front. Whenever we look to investing in the new kit, we try to fix a current issue, in this case, capacity. But then extend our capability. The ability to turn components up to 650mm diameter is a real game-changer for us opening up a market that was previously unavailable.”

With uncertainty, spearheaded by Brexit, still overlooking much of the manufacturing sector across the UK, we asked Richard why he believes now is the right time for investment.

Speaking to us, he stated that no matter what times you, or your company, find yourself in, you must invest to survive, saying: “We have been on an investment trail since 2012 when we set up the company. We decided back then that the best way to stay ahead and to be able to compete on a global scale was to invest in new technology.

This has several advantages. We do not continually have to fix old worn-out machinery that inevitably lets you down at the worst of times. It attracts the very best talent to our team of highly skilled engineers. It also makes some traditionally complicated processes relatively easy.

Finally, we are pushing heavily towards automation which helps close the skills gap within our industry and enables us to run our machines into the night un-manned.”
